  25. What's in the distribution?
  26. =======================================================================
  27. This distribution contains Voodoo Banshee drivers, control panel for 
  28. Windows 95. The DirectDraw portion of the drivers supports Direct3D 
  29. when using DirectX 6.0
  30.  
  31. NOTE: DirectX 6.0 redistributable files should be used with these 
  32. drivers!

  38. Requirements

  41. - Windows 95
  42. - PC with a Pentium, Pentium II, or Pentium Pro Processor and a free 
  43.   AGP/PCI slot
  44. - 16MB of RAM
  45.  
  46. Fresh Installation 
  47. ------------------

  49. NOTE: Complete Steps 1 and 2 before removing your existing 2D card.
  50.  
  51. 1) Extract the files for the Voodoo Banshee driver to a directory.
  52. 2) Before removing your existing 2D card switch the video driver to 
  53.    Standard VGA. Click Start, Control Panel. Double-click on Display.
  54.  
  55.    Select 640X480 and 16 colors.  Accept the changes.
  56.  
  57. 3) Power off the system and remove your existing 2D card.
  58. 4) Install the Voodoo Banshee Card in a free AGP/PCI Slot
  59. 5) Power on the system and verify that video appears during post.
  60. 6) Start Windows in Normal mode
  61.  
  62.   (Once Windows starts you may be notified that no video device
  63.    exists, click Cancel if this message appears)
  64.  
  65. 7) Windows will detect a new VGA Compatible Display. You need to:
  66.  
  67.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  68.                                         and click OK.  Point to the Win95
  69.                                         directory in the driver
  70.                                         location then click OK again.
  71.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  72.                                         Detection Dialog Box. When notified
  73.                                         that the drivers are not found click
  74.                                         "Other Locations" then enter the path
  75.                                         to the Win95 directory in the driver
  76.                                         location.

  78. 8) You may then be prompted to insert the Windows 95 Voodoo Banshee Driver Disk.  
  79.    Again, enter the path you specified in Step 1 and press OK.
  80. 9) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  81. 10) Install DirectX 6.0.

  84. Upgrade Existing Voodoo Banshee Drivers
  85. --------------------------------

  87. 1) Start Windows 95
  88. 2) Extract the files for the Voodoo Banshee driver to a directory.
  89. 3) Click Start, Control Panel.  Double-click on Display.
  90. 4) Click the Settings tab then click:

  92.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Click "Change Display Type"
  93.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click "Advanced Properties"
  94.  
  95. 5) Then under "Change Display Type/Advanced Display" click "Change"
  96. 6) Click "Have Disk" and enter the path specified in Step 2 plus:

  98.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: the Win95 directory.
  99.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: the Win95 directory.

  101. 7) When asked to choose a device, select "3Dfx Voodoo Banshee"
  102. 8) You may then be prompted to insert the Windows 95 Voodoo Banshee Driver Disk.
  103.    Enter the path you specified in Step 2 again.
  104. 9) Windows will copy the drivers.   Reboot the system when prompted.
  105. 10) Install DirectX 6.0

  108. Limitations
  109. -----------
  110.  
  111. Running 640x480 16 Color will run SUPERVGA.DRV or VGA.DRV.  No Voodoo Banshee 
  112. features will be used.  Switch to a different resolution or color depth.
  113. Full windowed hardware acceleration with this version of the drivers is 
  114. only possible when running at 16bpp modes.

  116. Troubleshooting

  121. Problem: After installing the card, the system still detects my old 
  122. card even though it is no longer in the system.
  123. Resolution: See Step 2 of the "Fresh Installation" instructions.
